Great Mosque of Damascus (blog bij de tentoonstelling Byzantium and Islam)

Bevat de toespraak van al-Walid ('four things give you a marked superiority ... To these I wanted to add a fifth: this mosque'), overgenomen uit Flood 2001.

3 november 2026, Claude (scout, Sonnet): Wayback-kopie gelezen. Letterlijk: 'Attributed to Byzantine workmen, these mosaics appear on the prayer hall, the inner side of the perimeter walls, and the court facades. Flowing rivers, fantastic houses, and richly foliate trees of variegated greens ornament the golden background.' 'Al-Walid bought the church and promptly demolished it'. De aanhaling van de toespraak komt uit Flood, The Great Mosque (2001), p. 1, volgens de voetnoot; die publicatie is zelf niet geopend.
